The good news is that even modest amounts of weight loss can lead to significant health benefits and help to optimise your patient’s current and future health. Carrying even small amounts of excess fat can have a considerable impact on an individual’s quality of life. Areas affected by accumulated and excess fat include: self-esteem, skin health, back and joint pain, acid reflux, metabolic health, mood disorders, for example, depression and/or anxiety, immune function, gout, stress incontinence and some symptoms of menopause.
For individuals carrying high levels of excess weight, weight loss of 5–10% of their body weight can lead to improvements in clinical outcomes for several other weight-related conditions, including type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea, osteoarthritis and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
For any individual classified as overweight or obese, even a small amount of fat loss can improve their health. It may also improve results in other treatment areas that you offer in your clinic.
